hello wisechild. There are no paupers graves in either Key Hill Cemetery or Warstone Lane Cemetery, only private graves or public grave. Restoration of the cemeteries will commence shortly.

Hello zenawarrior : If you have not already done so contact the Friends on email above to find the plot number . The numbers you have listed are a reference number rather than a section & plot number.
Also copies of the burial records can be purchased from BMSGH online shop for £5.00 each. This is less expensive than a death certificate.
The burial record will include the date of burial and may contain other information such as address, who officiated the service & who purchased the plot.

The Friends of Key Hill Cemetery & Warstone Lane Cemetery in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter in Hockley are the only group to maintain the cemeteries. The Friends help to raise funds to restore the headstones as well as researching the lives of those buried in these two historic cemeteries where a number of notable people are buried. Including, Joseph Chamberlain politician and statesman, Mayor of Birmingham: Alfred Bird ( Custard ) Joseph Gillott ( Pen manufacture ): Robert Lucas Chance ( Glass makers ) : John Baskerville ( Printing & typeface) Harry Gem ( Lawn Tennis )
Tours of the cemeteries are the second Sunday of the month except for December.
Tours of Warstone Lane Cemetery ( Cof E ) meet at Pitsford Street 12noon.
Tours of Key Hill Cemetery ( non conformist ) meet at Ickneild Street Cemetery gates 2pm. The Friends hold opens days and attend history fairs. The Friends can assist your family history research with "look up's " for plot numbers of a family grave. email : [email protected]

The friends of Key Hill have worked very hard to tidy the cemetary & they are extremely helpful, if you tell them who you are lookimg for they will tell you the exact location

i have a friend who comes with me when i go grave hunting
she reckons my family are more interesting than hers
i found the register numbers from find my past
i will take your advise and contact yardley. as it happens we have a visit there planned for wednesday so might be able to do it then
we are visiting the babies mother father grandmother grandfathers graves

Hi Zena.
Whatever you do, don´t go to Key Hill on your own. It´s dangerous.
My aunt & I were in correspondence about the state of the cemetery when my g grandmother´s grave, along with many others, was moved to allow the building of the tramway from Snow Hill to Wolverhampton in 1995
Won´t go into all the disputes that arose, but my aunt registered an official complaint to B´ham City Council about the state of the cemetery.
As luck would have it, I still have a copy of the letter she sent.
It was addressed to BCC .Cemeteries & Crematorium Dept, The Haven, Yardley Cemetery, Yardley Road B25 8NA.
Suggest you contact them for info.

Last time I saw Key Hill cemetery it was more or less in ruins. My g grandmother & 2 of her sons & a grandchild, as well as several other ancestors are buried there, but it is completely neglected & has become a haunt of drunks & junkies. Disgraceful!!
In answer to your question, I´m pretty sure there was no designated childrens´section, but there are many, many "paupers" graves with up to 20 people in each one, including children.
By the way, in Brum you look for babbies, not babies.

There is no cemetery office at Key Hill & as far as I know there never was. It was administered from Warstone Lane cemetery.

Although there may be a mass grave of new borns or infants who died in hospital, I doubt if there would be a 'childrens' section at that period.

Unless the parents were able to purchase a plot, the child might well have been popped in with an adult who was being buried at the same time.

There is bound to be a cemetery office. Call in there and ask them for the locations of the graves.

I would doubt that there would have been a children's section in those days...........although one never knows.........

hi all, but mainly brummies i would think
on the 1911 census my greatgrand parents alice harriet and william henry crowther state they have 3 babies dead but i managed to find them

this morning i found that they are buried in key hill cemetery(the jewellery quarter) and i have the register numbers (see above).
what i would like to know is would they have had their own graves in a childrens section and would i be able to find were they are in the cemetery
