Hi Sinead - have you ordered the marriage certificate? I think you're going to need that to get any further with him.

Just bumping this up again in hope of finding some info about John Donoughue, rather stuck with him

Also my grandma has always said that John Donoughue was a one legged man who swam for yorkshire

I've tried looking for information on him but im not finding anything =(

As far as I know John Donoughue is buried in St Marys church in Batley, west yorkshire, wasnt sure what I could do with this info as I dont know the year

Sinead - does your gran have any recollection of when/where John Donoughe may have died? We could then find his death to establish when he was born and see what we can trace.

There's a public tree on Ancestry that has quite a bit of information about Nestors from Clooney parish, co Clare

They have a James Nestor b1866 Clare but no further information on what happened to him. The parents were John Nestor and Bridget Donohue. Amongst the siblings was a Jeremiah (one of James and Cecelia's boys is so called), also a Patrick and a Mary - having said that, they're not unusual names.

They have a variety of stories and pictures, including the family house.

You can search and view public Ancestry trees for free on their spin-off site, Mundia. You can also contact tree owners. You have to register but it costs nothing.

I'm blowed if I can find the Nestors anywhere in 1901, have tried several sites, and Irish census.

You'd really need to order one of the children's birth certificates to check the mother's maiden name.

EDIT: If you go onto FreeBMD you'll find two births in Huddersfield in the name of Nestor with mother's maiden name McGarry so it looks a good possibility. The names of those children tie in with what you know.

i've done research to the best of my ability so far but have got a little stumped

John Donoughue married Ellen Nestor

Ellen had 5 siblings

John Donoughue and Ellen Nestor had 3 children, and Ellen died in childbirth with baby Ellen

Kathleen - 1922,
Mary - 1924 (my great grandma)
and
Ellen - 1926 (known as Eileen)


So basically I'd like to find out more about them both

with Donoughue, my gran seems to think with the name hes from Ireland and came to Liverpool, but as with a lot of things with my family tree things arent unfolding as we thought lol

any help would be much appreciated :)
