Liking the look of all this Christina!

I think we are on the right lines. I think his parents both went on to marry other people.

Now I'm wonderinf if that is the correct marriage for Mary as a tree on Ancestry has this.
Mary Wedlake

Birth abt 1834 in Porlock, Somerset, England
Death Living
Death Jun 1906 in Williton, Somerset, United Kingdom

Parents
Henry Wedlake 1806 – 1880
Elizabeth 1801 –

But the only "Sources" for her birth are census records and for her marriage to George Dyer just the refernce of the Freebmd index.

Oh, well done Christina! Looks like that tree on Ancestry is incorrect then. Happens so often that people just look on the census and don't research further and attach the wrong people to their trees!

Sorry, I haven't had time to check all the entries on this thread, so don't know if this site has already been mentioned.

www. wsom.org.uk

This site has a lot of Baptosms, Marriages and Burials for various parishes in West Somerset, including Porlock.

I have ancestors coming from East Quantoxhead and know that there are some POPHAM baptisms and marriages in that parish.

Loads of inf. all free. Even pictures of the various churches.

(I found site by doing a search for "East Quantoxhead")

Time I went to bed, and will busy for the next few days, so can't help further at the moment.

Looking at West Somerset site (wsom.org.uk) Much (if not all) of this info has already been given.

Baptism of Wedden Popham Widlake 11th Jan 1856 Mother Mary Widlake (no fathers name) at St Dubricus Church Porlock (Mary was from Bossington)

Baptism of Mary Widlake 9th March 1834 Mother Fanny Widlake (a servant) no fathers name given at St Dubricus Church, Porlock

No baptism for Fanny found in this parish.

Marriage of Fanny Widlake to Francis Tame St. Dubricus, Porlock. 22nd Dec 1835.

Baptism of James Tame 4th Sept. 1836 , parents Fanny and Francis Tame, in St. D. Porlock.

Baptism of Ann and Henry Tame, parents Fanny and Francis 26th October 1839.

I.m off to check other parishes!

Hi everybody, Thank you so much for all your replies they have been more than helpful. I knew about the Wedllock/Wedlake connection but was unsure about the Widlake side of things. Also the spelling of Wedden varies a lot and he went on to be William Wedlake so it is quite confusing. My apologies for not replying sooner but am having eye treatment and my sight is not too good somedays. :-D

A possible baptism for Weden's grandmother Fanny. She gives her place of birth as Cutcombe on the 1851 census posted by Brummiejan on page 1.......

If this is her, she appears to be the youngest of a very large family. Baptisms with the same parents names dating back to 1781.

This is indeed the right family, once again many thanks for all the help.
As soon as my sight is a little better will be able to research more :-)
