James was the son of William reed ( born in stamford 1838 ) the chief constable of stamford. James disappears from stamford after 1871 some of the family are in London. Can any one help with james whereabouts after 1871.

Yes all the above is correct James goes somewhere not sure where to start looking also his daughter Mary Isabella also is of the radar after 1871 looked for deaths no luck. Thanks for your reply

Shirley, if you take a look at the 1871 census image daughter Mary has been paralised since birth - so maybe she was in a hospital as she got older.

There's nothing obvious for James on passenger lists, he was an accountant in 1871, but law student in 1861 so could be under either occupation. If the son's marriage is correct he was a solicitor.

There's also no obvious death for him, I would have thought there would be a probate record but none that I can see.

So kind of you to reply. Yes I noted the daughter Mary disability I have searched London hospital no luck. Yes the marriage is correct regarding William Reed ( his son) but I doubt the info on the certificate was accurate re james occupation . There are entries in local new papers stating he was declared bankrupt in 1864 he was also in court for drunk ness and threatening to kill his aunt Mary Barber in 1871 although he was discharge without sentencing. He did work as a solicitors clerk prior to 1871 thanks again for your trouble.
