Wow there was a big debate in the family with some saying Bessie was really Eliza, well there you go! Thanks, Maura, brilliant help x :-)

Cherilyn Report 11 Apr 2013 10:15

Hi again Maura

With the Cromptons - can you see a birth for Johnston/e? The birth year for John Jas doesn't match his age on the 1901 census?

Thank you :-)

Cherilyn Report 11 Apr 2013 10:20

...then again, he can't have been 13 in 1901 and 20 in 1911?! Maybe 1911 should read 23?

Maura Report 11 Apr 2013 11:11

I could'nt find a birth/baptism for a Johnston, I think John James is him, as for the age difference, it all down to who fill in the census, in this case his father, so he may not of known his birth year and guessed it, it happens alot, back then people had little to no education, unless they came from a weathly family. Bessie is a pet name for Elizabeth.

Thanks Maura...I am sure I got her WA marriage certificate (somewhere) and it said Bessie...must have taken her word for it! :-D
