many apologies Mark. I must need new glasses. I misread your opening post as probate 1919 not Eliz born 1819

How did I manage that??

Potty

Potty Report 10 Apr 2013 16:47

I have a will for which probate was granted many years after the death. The death took place in 1786 and was not proved until 1827:

I ordered the probate as I believe it would name his children which it has...

Reuben Downham father of Elizabeth Downham who married George Farrar...

a bit puzzled about the timescale here Mark

Elizabeth Downham was of full age on that marriage in 1840 ie born at the latest 1819 so her father would have been born around 1800 or before and yet his will was not proved until 1919???
