I have a David Gurney B 1861 St Pancras Middlesex

I noticed on Ancestry shows 'London Electorol Registers'

Following Astra's post above, although there is no-one else of the same surname listed it's full of other men as it was a working man's hostel:
There's more about it here:

http://www.aisling.org.uk/pages/ahhist.htm

and a picture:

There are also ER listings for a David Gurney in Hammersmith 1910 - 1913 and Enfield 1920. Is there anything in particular you're trying to find out about your David?

Following on regarding his naval service there is a piece from an Australian Newspaper.

Deserted at Sydney from HMS Wolverene.

18th November 1881 David Gurney (ord) born Middlesex 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches tall, brown hair, grey eyes, pale complexion, sailors, anchors etc. tattooed on right forearm.

A reward was offered.

If this is the correct David Gurney then he may have changed his name to avoid capture and remained in Australia.

Given that the David Gurney on the 1918 was in a lodging house, I was wondering about this:

1901 census transcription details for: James Grant, 3, 4 & 5 Little Grove Street Church Street Maryleb

National Archive Reference:
RG number: RG13 Piece: 116 Folio: 136 Page: 4

Ecclesiastical District: Christ Church

Address: St Marylebone
County: London

Name Relation Condition Sex Age Birth Year Occupation , Disability Where Born
GURNEY, D Lodger Single M 40 1861 Painters Laborer St Pancras

It appears to be a registered lodging house.
