When you say you have had a GRO search, was this at national level?
I am just wondering if he was registered near place of death....after the inquest.... but never made it onto the GRO master copy, held nationally.

He would not be registered until the circumstances of his death had been investigated, so the registration can be later than you would at first expect.

What was the date of the newspaper report?

I have finally tracked down DAVID WADHAMS death. Thanks to the British Newspaper Archives being put on line.Turns out he was found dead in an outhouse in Southend, heart attack, no suspicious circumstances. In his pocket was a letter from his wife saying she needed money and a note giving his name and address in West Ham. He died somewhere between August and September 1902.
I have trawled the death records and even had a GRO search done (by a very helpful gentleman who came at the search from several different angles) but to date I can find no record of his death.
I have no idea where to look now or what to actually look for, are there special records for Coroners death notifications, could he have been registered as unknown possible identity as David Wadhams. Would his wife have to have identified him?
Can any one help me this search is over 15 years old now and I would love to resolve it. David's grandaughter is still alive and would dearly love to know the answer to this mystery.
