Sharon Marie, it wouldn't have been 39 years it would have been 17 years if Henry Searle and Edith Roberts are the parents of Margaret and Edith (born 1925 and 1921).

They married 1904. Everything does seem to fit about them, just that gap before the children were born.

I cant see them waiting 39 years for a child as mum was born 1943 ;-)

Thanks marie celeste, I seem to have moved forward with my paternal side but this 1 is not so easy, I will purchase my grandmothers b cert as it should have have her father on ....i am not sure why it was long time before they were born

Just a quick visit - Sharon Marie, I'd strongly recommend that the certificate you buy is the birth certificate of your grandmother.

Just because Margaret and Edith's mother's maiden name is shown as Roberts on their birth record doesn't mean that the marriage was between a Searle and a Roberts. If the mother had been married before then the marriage would have been between Searle and whatever her married name was (although births would show the maiden name).

Bearing in mind that a lot of young women lost their husbands in WW1 there's the possibility of a remarriage.

I'm curious about the 1911 that Vicci posted, the names seem to fit but why was it such a long gap before the daughters were born?

Right guys I have just treated myself to my paternal great grandfathers marriage cert, would really like to get to grip with this side too. I know that Margaret and Edith's mother was a Roberts that married a searle ...not sure which there first names were or year of marriage ...
