Welcome to the boards Glyn.
I am guessing you do not have his marriage cert? If you do, please can you give all details from it. Ta.

From new thread:

"Hello I am still trying to trace the history about my Fathers Father he was born in1889 we think in Halifax ,Yorkshire he was then we believe adopted by a Canadian family called Van Leuven from Hamilton,Ontario before joining the Navy .In1912 in Devonport,Devon he married my Gran Louie Walker nee Potter but we know nothing about his parents except it looks like his father was called John I got this from the Wedding Certificate can anybody help any more thanks Glyn Walker."

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 22 May 2013 22:01

Glyn, did you ever get the marriage certificate to see what it said re: his father's details?

EDIT: You can order the certificate from GRO, will cost £9.25
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

Working without it and making assumptions could mean you follow the wrong line.

EDIT: Just notice you said his father was John, so you obviously did get the cert. What was John's ocupation and who were the witnesses?

Makes it difficult keep going from one to the other to see if same info has already been posted.
