pm from Margaret ..................

Hi Sylvia. Thanks for your help. Do you have any info on John Biby after 1871? I would love to know where he was in 1881 as in 1883 he witnessed his step-daughter's [Frances Fanny Davis] wedding to Joseph Beeston Thomas in Newport. Thanks again. I'll try your blacksmiths link.

I've had a quick look, and can't see him in 1881

Is this the marriage (Davis/Davies?):

Marriages Jun 1883
DAVIES Frances Newport, M. 11a 301
Thomas Joseph Newport M 11a 301

All the family moved there?

Patchem I have found Joseph B Thomas in censuses before and after the marriage and there's no sign of John and Ann.

Can't find Frances/Fanny in 1881 either....

Yes, I was having the same problems.

No sign of obvious death either.

Found Frances/Fanny as Beeby in Newport in 1881. Waitress in a pub. Also there is Louisa Calstrop who is Frances' witness to wedding in 1883. John Biby was the other witness so he must be alive in '81 but Frances is not living with him,

There is also this marriage but no other information when I clicked on the page number

Looking at the image for the GRO sheet ..........

.......... Joseph B Thomas is handwritten at the bottom of the page.

The "a" is a squiggle superscript ............. if that makes sense!

but 2 separate transcribers have read it as page 300a
