Well Charles, there's people half your age (and less) who aren't managing the boards as well as you are!

We all have to start somewhere and you're picking it up quickly, the way you've replied this time is exactly right.

I hadn't realised it was pre 1837 when J.O. married.

Just for other helper's reference:

Hello Marie, Firstly I thank you for your kindness and interest.

However, I must tell you that I do not understand the operation of G.R .
I am 84 and all this is beyond me. This thread business..."Watched threads"
"Posts" "new posts" At the end of your message it stated"Add your reply", and I did.
Doubtless, I have done it incorrectly.
Again, thank you .
Kindest regards,
Chas.

"Hello Marie,
My G.Grandfather had a civil wedding at Pevensey , Sussex on 6th. May 1833. A certificate was not issued in civil ceremonies at that time. The archivist for the area told me that there was no mention of family in the record. J.O. was an Officer Coastguard at West Mersea."

Hello Charles - if you have a complete record of him does that include his marriage certificate which should show his father's name and occupation (providing he knew his father)? If so, could you give us those details and also when/where he married?

The more we can work back from the better!

pm from Charles:

"Hello Marie Celeste.,
I have a complete record of my g.grandfather dating from 1828 when he joined the navy. it states on his first pay sheet ,relating to the naval ship "Asia" that he was born in Black Rock County Dublin. His Birth date of 24/12/1809 is taken from his tombstone in Sunderland, where he died in 1881. I have been unable to trace him in Ireland.

Chas."

Hello Charles - your thread has triplicated itself!

Sometimes multiple posting happen when there's a glitch in the system.

Could you delete the other two?
