Hi Paul - yes, this site is a law unto itself! Quite a few members have pointed out to Genes that the tick thing has unexpected results but .....

Did the William Thurgood that you're asking about stay in Ceylon for good?

Did not know that by marking the thread as Answered meant that i did want want to continue with Thread...This Forum is a lot different than other Forums i subscribe to...My late wife was born in Kandy...Sri Lanka...Now helping her Father who is Age 88 in tracing his Family Tree...

Paul - you can ignore the pm I've just sent you! I thought seeing as you'd marked the thread as answered that you wouldn't be back.

How did you connect to William in the first place? Knowing that would be a big help in unearthing any other relevant records.

If we can establish that the service records do belong to your man then I'd be happy to send you the records.

The National Archives reference: WO97 / 4024 / 88

He returned from Ceylon (called Sri Lanka since 1972) in 1884 and served in England until 1890. He married a Hannah Jane Woodley in Walthamstow in 1884.

His father was William.

William may of been registered as just William and added Henry to his name later. My great grandfather was registered as Michael however in subsequent census records he was down as Joseph, he married and died as Michael Joseph

There are several William Thurgood's born in the Essex area between 1861 and 1865.

Have you found him on any records?

Might he have been Thorogood ?
