Hi

I am trying to trace the family of Charles Thomas Ward. He was born around 1886. According to his marriage (to Hilda May Gibson in 1926) certificate his father's name was George Ward - but that is as far as I can go with any certainty. He was also previously married to Edith Maud Valentine. The Ward family were from the Luton area. Any help would be much appreciated.

I would be inclined to purchase a copy of the marriage cert to Edith Maud Valentine to see what information that gives you.

What is George's occupation on the marriage cert and who were the witnesses?

I just found that too GB.

So if that is Edith's death.........Charles remarried before Edith died!

Maybe we need a few more details from that marriage to Hilda. What age was she, what was her maritial status and her father's name/occupation. What was his father's occupation?

That divorce link I posted is not available on-line, but you can order via NA websitie - it may give you more.

If the 1911 census posted by PH is right, then it looks like he returned to Notts, after his divorce. How have you linked back to him - it sometimes help to trace if there are some other relatives.

You say the Ward family were from the Luton area, but his second marriage looks to have been in Worksop, Notts. Do you have his first marriage cert to cross-check the details?

Hi Cynthia, I had a PM from Mike earlier, he is obviously looking at the thread as he has seen my post re the divorce. I asked him to come back and try to answer some of the questions so we can try to go further.

Sorry, didn't post this as I was waiting for him, but judging by what Mike said I wonder if the divorce was not finalised. Shame Ancestry divorces don't go up to this date.
