Still not finding him, although I can find his siblings .....

Miranda

Miranda Report 5 May 2013 13:33

Laurence was know as Larry

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 5 May 2013 12:47

Rose, I saw that too - there's also a John in Carrig More who would fit the bill for the father (age 43 and married less than 1 year which could be why the lad was with grandparents).

Miranda, in case you're wondering what we're on about, this link takes you to a 10 year old John Hynan:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Limerick/Doon_South/Toomaline_Lower/643525/

and this one to a possible for his father:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Limerick/Oola/Carrig_More/644013/

These are a possible for the military record I posted which in turn is a possible for the John Hynan who married Bridget Egan in 1919.

If it were me, I'd definitely be buying Laurence's marriage certificate to check his age (I can't find a birth reg for him - was he known by any other names?)

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
Marriages Mar 1951
HYNAN Lawrence WOLFE Kensington 5c 2999
WOLFE Ann HYNAN Kensington 5c 2999

Order from GRO http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ it will cost £9.25

I looked late last night and the John Hynan, Limerick, on the 1911 Irish was aged 10, which would tie in with that military record MC.

Thanks Miranda, after having a quick look it all seems fine back to Laurence but then the confusion sets in. You know you're 100% on track to that point as he is your grandfather.

If you're confident with the age you have for Laurence (born c1925) then we really have to discount that 1994 death as that John Joseph Hynan would only have been around 10 or 11 when Laurence was born. On the other hand, if Laurence was very young when he married in 1951 then it is a possible. If he was, say, 18 he would have been born in the early 1930s which would make that 1994 death a possible for the father.

BUT - that would then rule out the 1919 marriage between John Hynan and Bridget Egan as they would only have been 6 years old (but there could be another marriage somewhere between people of those names - Bridget Egan is a far from unusual name).

The first mention I see of Laurence on the London Electoral Rolls is 1952 which means that he'd either only just reached voting age (21) then or he'd lived elsewhere before that. Personally, I'd go with the first option seeing as he married in London the previous year.

Is there anyone in the family still around who would have attended Laurence's father's funeral and can remember where and when it took place?

marie celeste I have given permission to view my tree :)

MarieCeleste

Following Miranda's earlier suggestion of looking at her tree I've sent a pm to that effect.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 May 2013 22:54

I'm not saying that this is Lawrence's father, but I'm posting it for consideration when you get some more hard facts:

British Army WWI Pension Records 1914-1920

Name: John Hynan
Birth Parish: Doon
Birth County: Limerick
Document Year: 1916
Regimental Number: 11548
Regiment Name: Royal Irish Regiment
Number of images: 5

When he enlisted at Clonmel on 4 May 1916 he said he was a labourer and was born 3 May 1898 which was claiming he was 18. His father was a John Hynan of Carrickmore, Doon, Limerick.

However, he was discharged 29 May 1916 for making a mis-statement as to his age. (Sounds like he said he was older than he really was).

MarieCeleste Report 4 May 2013 22:31

Miranda - how did you make the connection from Lawrence to John Hynan b 1859 and the John T Hynan you were originally asking about?

Rambling

Rambling Report 4 May 2013 22:31

The 1911 Irish census is free online at

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

only 2 John Hynans that could be possible's in Limerick.

I think this is Nora, same district as John Joseph, but way out as age if Laurence was born around 1926

Hanora is shortened to Nora

England & Wales, Death Index, 1916-2006 about Hanora Hynan

yes both london

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 May 2013 22:11

Buy their marriage certificate to check their ages when they married, as per that 1919 I posted.

Here's a link for Irish certs:
http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm

If you order UK certificates they're from GRO:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Do you have any idea when/where John Joseph and Bridget Nora died? I can see them on London electoral rolls but no other records.

Miranda

Miranda Report 4 May 2013 22:05

ok so their birth dates are wrong it seems how do i find them

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 May 2013 22:04

Miranda, I think the names are correct but the birth years are wrong. If Laurence was born 1925/26 then his parents would not have been born 1915 and 1913. I think that 1919 marriage I posted for his parents is more likely.

It's impossible to do family research without having to buy some certificates to get further information.

my family are sure laurences parents are correct names

Rambling

Rambling Report 4 May 2013 21:55

You would really need to have the certs to confirm who Laurence's parents are though, unless family is absolutely sure of the names.?
