Opening post from new thread:

Carl Ejner Lind born 21-3-1900 Copenhagen, Denmark, I wonder?, when his other two brothers were born Sweden.

He was a merchant seaman, a captain, travelled the world.

He came to New York through Ellis Island 1918. He married Harriet Burgie born 1914 Rochester, New York. they moved to San FranCisco, California.

Harriet died 1977 San Mateo and Carl died 22-11-1978 San Mateo where buried. He left the navy and worked a steel plant and they had a son. I had a look at his death certificate, says born Denmark parents unknown but the brother of Henning and Ragnor. Was he born in Denmark? this family is strange.

Sue, are Ragnar and Henning actually named as his brothers on his death certificate?

Does the death certificate also give Copenhagen as his birthplace?

When/where did Carl and Harriet marry (must have been after 1940 as she was still single on that census)

Further finding this family were so mixed up. Carls son has just found a letter from ragnor and a photo album of henning, the photo of henning is his shipping days and photo of his wife Gjehtine, and the letter from ragnor to carl who he had just found was to say he was dying in a new york hospital from drink. the photo album was given to Eric Carls son when gjentine Hennings wife had moved to SAn Deigo and died by her Family. Carl and Harriet married New York then moved to California where only son born 1953. Carl didnt leave anything on his death certificate hated his family that why sll sons went to sea the were taken of parents. that is for sure Carls brothers you found and parents Henning and Ragnor their is a we patch dad had written in a corner to say Nils the dad , Haurka? his dad born all Landskona which is near Helingsborg. The mum Christina Mathesion or Mattisdotter came from Urshilt ?Vestamorlan?d Sweden its hard to read the writing , said her family buried there.Carl has got born Copenhagen which is on border of Helingsborg i wonder though the parents drinkers to. Hello Sue, could we just look at the basic facts and information from the certificates?

As I asked above:

Are Ragnar and Henning actually named as his brothers on his death certificate?

Does the death certificate also give Copenhagen as his birthplace?

When did Carl and Harriet marry?

Susanne

Susanne Report 13 May 2013 10:16

No Ragnor and Henning not on death Certificate.
Yes death certificate gives Copenhagen as birth
Carl and Harriet married either 1952 or 1953 in :Las Vegas

Thanks Susanne, now that is strange.

I'm wondering if his parents may have moved to Denmark for a while, but then I would have expected his nationality to be Swedish by parentage. But maybe they were just confused? A puzzle.

Will look more tonight, I'm not hopeful that we would find a Nevada marriage record ......

It is a weird one could Carl have been fostered out to somebody in Copenhagen, seems boys were split up from what i am told carls parents moved with royalty and given titles. nils and Christina. From what i could read on that we patch of writing all Carls family in Sweden. i did notice on a website it mentioned Helingsborg Copenhagen, but reading it down it did say Helingsborg in Sweden but on border.
i wonder if Carl thought it was Denmark. Son did ask questions but didnt talk about it seems he was all over the world as a ships mariner photo of him at the bottom of new zealand.. Sue

Just to mention that I've checked and the Nevada marriage index starts from 1956. Had hoped to find something but just a few years too early.

Thank you for the help Marie they dont have the marriage certificate either perhaps writing to the denmark archives may be an answer. i read a letter from Ragnor today to Carl it was sad saying how glad he was th make touch with his brother and to say what a terrible childhood they had how sorry he was a pauper had enough to bury himself and that he was dying he was masinly on fishing vessels. Carl on yachyts and Henning merchant navy.. Sorry i dont think it seems possible todo much more.

Daughter Clara lind came tthrough Ellis Island 6-9-1904 fron Copenhagen she was born 1887 Sweden and Tage lind came through Ellis Island 3-12-1918 he was born 1892 in sweden. Parents Niels and christina married 1886 and we found clara fostered out by her grandmother Nils mother and henning was fostered out by a seamstress. Nils dieed 1937 in Sweden where Christina left him about 1900 to live in Copehagenwith ragnor and Tage. MarieCeleste Report 25 May 2013 15:45

Sue, if the parents of Carl, Henning and Ragnor were Nils Hakasson Lind and Christina/Kristina Mattisdotter, does this mean that Harry Peter Christiansen is a half brother?

Did Christina remarry or have another relationship?

Susanne

Susanne Report 26 May 2013 01:16

Yes it means he is a half brother Sue

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 26 May 2013 10:13

There are a few people with similar sounding names but none that fit the bill for your Harry Peter, he may not have gone to the US ........

Susanne

Susanne Report 27 May 2013 10:16

Sue, I've searched and searched and not found any matches - Ancestry is notorious for throwing up false matches in results. Sorry.

Hi Marie Celeste, Thsank you for all your help on the Lind Family from Carls Son Eric Lind you have been amazing help, Unfortunaltly my time runs out in June but would like to say all amazing helpers thans, we are so lucky to have you all. Marie Erics wife has been in touch with a 90 yr old man who flatted with Erics dad way back and yes he says Carl Ejner Lind born Copenhagen in 1900 Erics dad did talk of his sister Clara or Klara Wilhelmina Lind she arrived in the States in 1904 so i have a feeling she may have stayed but what became of her we couldnt find, she was born 1887 in Sweden.
