Thank you Stuart, been away from my computer for a while. Just logged on to check and now I am logging off again. I think I need to write it down so I'm not having to go and down screen (haven't got a printer). Many thanks once again. :-D

Following up on the above post - This 1841 census shows a connection between Tickles and Doyles which could be how the Pickering to Joanna Eden/Doyle marriage came about.

It is too late to work it all out now, way past my bedtime, just wanted to make a note of it on here whilst I had the census etc in front of me. I'm sure the experts will tear it apart if necessary (or find the links!!) I can always delete...

1841 census transcription details for: Taylor's Row, Prescot, Sutton

I keep coming back to this scenario - St Helens, Sutton, Eccleston, Prescot all next door to one another

Name: Dinah Houghton
Gender: Female
Christening Date: 1829
Christening Place: ST. HELENS, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND
Birth Date:
Birthplace:
Death Date:
Name Note:
Race:
Father's Name:
Father's Birthplace:
Father's Age:
Mother's Name: Hannah Houghton

Mother's Age:
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C13587-6
System Origin: England-VR
GS Film number: 1469036
Reference ID: - 2:2HD4JSL

Then - Is Hannah the Anne in this marriage???

Marriage: 21 Oct 1833 St Mary the Virgin, Prescot, Lancashire, England
James Tickle - (X), Collier, bachelor, Sutton
Anne Houghton - (X), spinster, Sutton
Witness: James Houghton, (X); Mary Anne Houghton, (X)
Married by Banns by: John Edwards - Curate
Register: Marriages 1830 - 1837, Page 86, Entry 256
Source: LDS Film 1657584 item 12

And then the family on the 1841 census, names etc match those of the 1851 posted earlier, although James age is different. Ellen Houghton on both - Hannah's sister by the looks of it.

1841 census transcription details for: Bold Street, Prescot, Eccleston

TICKLE, Ellen F 4 1837 Lancashire

So the houghton's, Pickerings and Tickle's interconnected

Hi, I think I am getting totally lost now. I cant find James marriage on Lancashire BMD to Joanna, however in 1851 there is a marriage to Dinah Houghton which is probably Donna yet again misspelt, above. I have seen the birth for Patrick. Also, the daughter is called Dinah, also born Sutton. :-S

Was James married before thus the childrens birth dates. A marriage certificate would say if he was a widower

There is a Patrick Eden birth registered in St Helens in 1853, but no middle initial or mmn given on LancsBMD.

Marian

Marian Report 5 May 2013 20:12

Hello, I think she may have been married twice because of the Patrick Headen (must be Eden again misspelt) that is with them on the 1871 census and it says wife's son. Also Doyle sounds more Irish than Eden. thank you Fred, Detective and Vera. :-D

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 5 May 2013 20:05

Now this is interesting.

Look up the marriage on http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk - it is free and ought to be in your bookmarks if you have a lot of Lancs folk

Joanna Eden has an aka of Joanna Doyle. Was she married before?

DOYLE Joanna to PICKERING James
EDEN Joanna to PICKERING James

Marriage took place at Prescot, St.Mary's

If they are your direct line, it would be good to buy the BC - EDIT - Sorry, the MC

Hello, could someone take a look at the above census please. He will be with his wife, who was born in Ireland, and their son Thomas aged 1 born 1860 in Sutton Lancs. The reg district is Prescot, Lancashire. I have the 1881 census and his wife's name is down as Johnannah but I can't find their marriage which is why I would like someone to check the census to see if her name is Johnannah (probably misspelt). Thank you.
