Just to add to that marriage record, on the image the father Lee is noted as deceased but the mother Estell is living.

Both Virgil and Martha were residents of Birmingham, Alabama.

Are we looking for 'white' or 'negro'?

Added:
If correct family found ignore this query, but might have helped as the ones I found were not W on the census.

patchem - I have been looking on FamilySearch.org as I cannot afford to subscribe to any sights that cover the USA

MarieCeleste - if Lee was deceased that would explain why I could not find him on the 1940 census, and that 1940 Census about Virgil Jordan looks very like it would fit, the name of mother as Annie is puzzling though :-S

OneFootInTheGrave Report 6 May 2013 15:04

patchem - I think negro is a possibility

MarieCeleste - that is excellent, the absence of the names Amos and Annie on Virgil L Jordan's marriage certificate appear to have been what caused me problems.

Thanks Again
