Yes he obviously moved about a bit working for the post office.

He never married & ended his days in Birmingham.

What do the ancestry entries for Scarborough & Birmingham say?

Thanks,

Gillian

Maybe he started out in Totness sorting office, then moved away as work was available . he's still single in 1901, still a sorting clerk , boarding in Balsall Heath

Hi Penny,

No, Gibon major worked for the railway.

Maybe Gibon junior just happened to be with his family when the census was held. I doubt he travelled to Plymouth each day from Totnes.

Gillian

Presumably he followed his father into the post office then.

Gigi

Gigi Report 7 May 2013 13:04

Hi Penny,

Yes, I knew he worked in Birmingham but not Plymouth or Scarborough.

In 1881 he was in Totnes Devon with his family.

All it says for the 1881 Plymouth is 'Sorting Clerk'

Do you have the census returns for him?

Looks like more than one chap with that name.
the other ( certainly one other ), being his son
