Patchem and Pricklyholly thank you so much the information you have found is brilliant adds some meat to my bones so to speak.

George Dicks is I am convinced my Great Grandad. George married my Grandmother Susan Farmer the year his wife died in 1911. My Grandad was illegitimate but the records I found ie baptism and birth in Marylebone workhouse list his father as George Herbert Haycroft but sifting through everything I think George Dicks was the father but because he was married he could not officially put his name on the birth certificate. I think Christine and Frank are half siblings to my grandad often wondered if perhaps they knew about their dad's extra marital affair. It explains why my grandad was brought up in Bristol. I had nothing to go on with my grandad's birth and name took a long time to find out that mystery I have a photo of Susan and George. My dad never knew his grandad but my Auntie said they had a Grandma Dicks who came to visit them in Plymouth. Why was there such a stigma to being illegitimate doesn't help in researching family ancestors. It is so lovely to know that Grandad had family I bet he never knew shame. My grandmother had him at age 39 and kept him so George would have helped with finances and he must have loved my grandmother because they married when he was free and they were elderly.
