I am presently tracking the people of the village of Stoke Works, Worcestershire, from the census of 1841 to 1911, a village which existed for no more than 100 years. It lay straddled between two church parishes, Dodderhill and Stoke Prior. Now it has been gobbled up by Stoke Prior. I'd love to correspond with anyone who might have some connection with the village.

Thanks,

Dianne

Look in 'search all trees' for people born there..........send contact messages to the tree owners.

Unless anyone googles the place name, it's unlikely that they will see your thread

Hi

Doing an exact search on the British Newspaper Archive for Stoke Works and Worcestershire there are hits for articles that contain those words between 1800 and 1949.

Do you have any names in particular that people could search for?

Jan

There is for instance in 1893 an obituary for a Mr Alfred Goodyere which gives details of his family, occupation, mourners etc etc

Sorry Jan, I haven't been keeping track of this post for a while.

I have now completed my search of the villagers of Stoke Works. It has turned into a booklet of over 200 pages as I've made family trees for all the families I could find using the 1841-1911 census. I have also made a booklet of over 100 pages of articles from the newspapers about people and events in the village.

I live in BC Canada, but if you'd be interested in getting a copy I'd be only too glad to send one to you, if you'll give me your address.

Hope you'll read this!!!

Hi Dianne,

I come from a long list of 'Harpers' working at the salt works and on the canals.
