My Ancestry sub has expired, and renewal is not an option at the moment, so I would appreciate a lookup for Alexander Redgate, born 1889, who served with the Sherwood Foresters.

I realise that over 70% of records were destroyed, so will not be surprised if nothing can be found

Thank you

The record given above is for someone in the second world war - not the first world war.

I can't find anything on Findmypast for the man you are looking for.

Looks like the only record to survive is the medal card - have checked all the A Redgate records on ancestry and national archives and none are him. guess his record was one of the 70%.

Shame you weren't looking for Albert as there is lots on him.

Incidently, the WW2 record for the Alexander posted earlier was born in 1915, the son of William & Grace Edith Redgate. This is his burial record:

Lance Bombardier Alexander A Redgate
Death Date: 10 Apr 1942
Burial Place: As Sallum, Matruh, Egypt
