Ann Report 30 May 2013 00:44

So sorry for the lack of input from me. But I realise you do very well without me, Thank you.
My husband was having a small shoulder operation which turned into a bigger one, and visitors arriving for a few days.

I had 20 mins on Monday night and what happened I was just about to send my message and the page shot to page 1 and my message vanished.

I was told there is no records for St Peters as it was dug up for a university and no records were taken.

I have all the Dewhurst grave records in Preston and Blackburn and Blezard's in Preston cemetery and other that a grave that William (John's son) bought when his first wife Margaret (Finch) died, William himself and 2 of his children and 3 Finch's.
So many Dewhurst's but there isn't anyone there that I can fit into my Dewhurst's.
Yes I had to pay for them but well worth the money.

There are 2 John's missing from the 1861 census about the same age in Preston.
When I get a chance I'll send for the death certificate of John age 69 Preston that died in 1854, sounds very positive to me.

Does anyone think the John that died in Preston age 72 in 1855 is worth sending for ?? (this would make him born 1783)

Lancat ? and RO ? :-S Am I missing a web site or two.

Please excuse my short message.

Thank you so much
Ann

sorry for the shorthand Ann

lancat is the name of the catalogue of records held at the Lancashire Archives or Records Office (RO). Not everything they hold is on the catalogue

http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/corporate/web/?siteid=4528&pageid=30539&e=e

Don't send for that certificate until Saturday as I hope to get to the RO tomorrow & will have a quick look for church MI's and wills pre 1858.

I assume the burial records you have for Preston are just for the big municipal cemetery on the outskirts of Preston not the church ones

hope your husband is getting better

"sorry for the shorthand"
It's like I live in a different world here, I'm not up to speed with all these RO's , MI's and Lancat and I'm sure a thousand more.

Thank you so much for the time your putting into this for me. I will hold back on sending for the certificate.

I presume the cemetery records I have are for the municipal cemetery as they only say Preston cemetery and not a church graveyard.

It's going to take 6 weeks before my husband will be able to use his arm, so a loooooooooooong time ;-)

Thank you
Have a good weekend

from the will of John Dewhurst who died 15-5-1855, yeoman

executors Arthur Dewhurst of Scotforth, William Dewhurst, Mary Dewhurst & Thomas Roberts

wife Mary

children :-
Ann wife of Robert Johnson
William
John
Robert
Thomas Roberts
owned houses on Fylde Road & Bedford Street (both near the present uni & St Peter's)

I guess this is the marriage of the above (connect to the Bibby's????)

Marriage: 20 May 1821 St Andrew, Leyland, Lancashire, England
John Dewhurst - Mechanic, Widower, Leyland
Mary Roberts - (X), Widow, Leyland
Witness: Thomas Sharrock; Richard Bibby

so I think this one can be eliminated

the only graves at St John's for Dewhurst were
Isabella age 2mths d 1821 daughter of Thomas & Ellen
Elizabeth age 40 d 1837 (married name Shaw)

Well, you two have been busy in my absence!!

So, we can rule out the 1854, 1855 and 1862 deaths - which still leaves the 1865 death with the right sort of age and district. That is always assuming he remained in the Preston sub reg district - what if he went to stay with one of the other children??

I think this is the freebmd index for the 1865 death, but not entirely sure as there are two ( the other one was age 44):

Deaths Mar 1865 (>99%)
DEWHURST John Preston 8e 367
DEWHURST John Preston 8e 396 <<<<<<<<<<<<

BUT bearing in mind the Lancashirebmd transcript

Lancashire Death indexes for the years: 1865
Surname Forename(s) Age Sub-District Registers At Reference

DEWHURST John 44 Preston Preston PRES/110/10
DEWHURST John 79 Preston Preston PRES/110/69 <<<<<

The John of the right age is registered later than the younger John.

So, maybe checking out?

Added, Hi Ann, sorry for the shorthand as well - being from Lancashire I didn't think when using the shortened names for the various sites. Well your hubby still has one good arm, so he can still do the vaccuming etc - should be able to clean the windows as well. Hope he's ok :-)

Ann Report 1 Jun 2013 02:48

I can always ask if I don't understand your short hand but I did think I was missing out on a few good websites :-S I was from Manchester,

My husbands good arm isn't working to good either, it's come out in sympathy with the other one. ;-)

I wonder which one of these John that died age 79 in 1865 Preston

I have been through all the john's in 1861 that could fit
There is something wrong with everyone of them, either he has different children, wrong occupation a couple born Yorkshire.

I have a John age 74 outside pauper living with William Goodin( Goodier) & Elizabeth I have their marriage cert . Not him

John, age 72, occ. weaver, Crown St Preston children Richard Robert and Alice.

John 70, Francis Ann St. Blackburn occ. Blacksmith

The only one I can't disprove at the moment is John born Walton le Dale, occ Ret Victualer age 76, Clopton St Chorlton. I do have a pencil line through it saying "No" and Henry and Jonathan written next to it.

Any emoticons for taking deep breaths in frustration
I supose this is the closest. :-|

Thank you for the extra miles your going for me.

Thank you, it confirms it's not my John.

I thank you so much for everything you have done, in fact I can't thank you enough, you have tried and tried everyway to solve the problem for me.

Please don't feel awful, just give it away when you are ready for banging your head on the wall.

I have been looking for John for many years and each time he goes back on the shelf. :-( :-(

Cheers Ann

Hi Ann,
You seems that you have not look at the Ribchester Parish Register. Extracted from them... John son of James Dewhurst, baptised on 22 August 1790, born at Ribchester. His sister, Susannah Dewhurst on 22 Dec 1793, born at Clayton le Dale. His brother, James on 3 May 1795 but he was buried in Ribchester Church on 29 Jul 1798, son of James Dewhurst, deceased. His father, James Dewhurst was buried in Ribchester on 25 July 1795. James was married to Jane Greenalls on 3 Feb 1788, Mason in Ribchester Parish Church. And also John's eldest sister, Betty Dewhurst baptised on 26 Dec 1788, born in Ribchester. Their mother, Jane Dewhurst, widow was buried on 27 Feb 1809.

Hope it helps you.

Your regards
Chris

Hi Christopher

please can you explain why you think this John is the one Ann is looking for rather than any of the others born around that time, especially the one born 1886 in Clayton?

Not saying it isn't - the 3 of us have looked at so many, I at least get bogged down with the details of the different ones

Ann

Ann Report 3 Jun 2013 23:50

Hi Chris
I don't know who John's parents were but I have my doubts it is James & Jane.

It would have been so much easier for me to go with the flow and say brilliant I have the Dewhurst's all the way back to .......

According to most

John's father was James and James's father was Lawrence etc.
I have looked at so many Dewhurst family trees that it is so confusing, is everyone right and I am wrong.

On the Banns for John's marriage to Elizabeth Fox, witness Thomas Dewhurst, (brother or could be a cousin ??)
This says "from the Parish of Ribchester,

1818, John occ. Carder was in Bolton St for the baptism for Robert (Sept 20th) and in the book of directories for that year.

Mainly
John's marriage to Elizabeth Fox was 1820 but John and Betty had Robert in 1818 and John in 1819 both died young so they weren't on the 1841 census, 1841 census showing Susannah was their youngest child and this is I think the reason why Elizabeth Fox was thought to be the one because this marriage fits in nicely.

Thank you for your input Chris. every bit helps.

Thank you also LancashireAnn for filling in for me
While I was Sleeping. (Oh thats a good name for a film)

Ann
