Hi. I am trying to dig deeper and find more information regarding James Burrows( 1853). His profession was that of a painter, he married Elizabeth Elliott (1856), and together they had three daughters. They resided at Derby St Alkmund, Derbyshire. The information i would like is that of James Burrows parents. I have searched many records, but seem to have come to a stand still. Does anyone have any info regarding James's parents?. :-)

Have you got their Marriage cert. What is the names of both their fathers and occupations on the marriage cert? As this will help to distinguish them out for others in earliers census.

this looks like your James in 1871, as occupation is Painter he is listed as son, but he can't be their son as they are too young and he is too old.

Okay I think this is him in 1861 with parents, but you will need his marriage cert to confirm his father just to be 100% sure.

this may be Ann: (which makes me wonder if Mary Ann was married before James)

christening: 02 Oct 1842
PECKLETON,LEICESTER,ENGLAND
parents: Charles Adams, Mary Ann

this looks like Marys first marriage, so her maiden name must be Smith

spouse: Mary Ann Smith

looking back, by the name of James and Elizabeth;s daughters I would say that it is most likely that is the correct family in the census. Their first daughter named after his mother and the second daughter after his half sister.

the 1871 census posted above is probably wrongly transcribed.

the 'end of household' mark is above James name. I think it should read (it is in this order)

James Burrows - son - painter - age 18
Mary A Burrows head - married - age 56
Martha Mason - orphan - age 10
