What could be the reason when someone has birth record, and then nothing. No marriage record, no death record! I have even checked passport applications and passenger lists. Nothing

Stumped, again

Perhaps they were adopted......

If not, perhaps you might like to give some details so that we can take a look for you?

Very often it's a case of the father dying, mother remarrying and the child taking the stepfather's name.

Thank you for replies, but this is not the case. No parental death and no adoption, no family break-up. There 2 people are from the same family that just seem to have disappeared. They are both no 1911 census and then nothing. Eliza 2nd oldest and Sarah the 4th of 8 children. I have found the other 6. Family name Tarpey, from Manchester. Are there any other records that I could check?

Could you copy over that 1911 census, please?

Added:
The 1911 census posted on that thread does not have those 2 daughters as 2nd and 4th oldest. Which is accurate?
Thanks

I assume that you have searched with all the variations of that surname?

One of my lines is Turpie, and I have found a number of errors with that. They were earlier than yours - ie census and parish records.

Records available online may have been correctly transcribed by individuals. But they may have been produced using OCR software. And that is unlikely to produce 100% accuracy, especially when many of the source images are a bit (or very) fuzzy.

Hi Choccy , thank you for your help. Eliza mentioned above cannot be the same person, as my Eliza was 5 years old on the census.

Is there anywhere else I can search

:-)

Hi Inky, thank you for your reply, I have checked all variations of spellings, and found nothing!!!!!!!!!!
I have found a passenger list with a Sarah Tarpey bound for Tangier, but the home address doesn't look right. i know mt family never moved from Manchester but this shows up as Bury.

Although Eliza is down as '5' on the census, she is the last child listed, after the 2 year old.
Have you found a birth for her in 1905/1906, as that 1910 birth posted looks the most likely, implying that the age on the census is incorrect.

Hi Patchem, yes it looks like you are correct, this only listing for Eliza.
Thank you for your help. Is there a way of checking school records so I can follow Sarah. Still new at all this. xx

PatinCyprus

PatinCyprus Report 29 May 2013 10:06

Think 1911 census should say 5 months, so death looks very like her. This looks like her birth.

Yes PatinCyprus I think it is, I did think it strange to have 2 children of almost the same age, i.e one at 5 1/2 and one at 5. I didn't think about it being 5 months.

Still getting nowhere with my Sarah though :-(

Ho hum still have so much to learn
