Help...My ggg grandfather is been very elusive. Est birth 1833.In 1871 he was in Birmingham England age 38, lodger, widower, occ: Lapidory. He had a daughter Emily And a son William both born Middlesex London. Any help would be very much appreciated. How could I get a South African birth cert?

EDIT If he was a British National, I think the records should be on FMP- some members have a sub, hopefully they can find him.

Sounds as though perhaps his father was in the Army. His Army records might be on FindMyPast and his son's birth may be amongst the Regimental births on the same site.
