I have a complication.... my paternal grandfather was married twice. His first wife he married in 1925 -Robert Spurr - Lilian Butler, Nottingham.
Lilian Butler/Spurr died in 1938. They had it would seem 5 girls - Marjory M,1926 born,Vera C,1930 born, Joan 1931 born, Betty 1933 born, Mavis 1938 born all in Nottingham.
My grandfather married my grandmother in 1945 to Mary Hughes. I have their marriage cert and it says that robert was a widower. I have no idea what became of these 5 girls as it was never spoken about. Neither can I find any record of them after their birth....neither in marriage or death. What could have become of them? Adoption? Workhouse?

Thanks Fredk - I also found these just through searching maiden name of mother, married name of mother to include marriage cert and father. However I cannot find any marriages or deaths for these daughters. Some could possibly be still alive.

Could they of emigrated. If I remember children were sent to Canada during WW2

As mum died just before WW2 its likely the children were put in a home and maybe adopted . As their dad never mentioned them then that's a likelihood .

Have you tried search trees to see if anyone has one of them listed

Maria...have sent you a PM with some marriages which may be your girls...I have not listed them here as they may all be living....
They are on Free BMD....
You will need to buy the MCs to be sure.

Thanks all - yes , probably adopted after they were put in a home. Then changed surnames.....this outcome I hope was right and didnt end up in any 'poorhouse'.

Elizabeth - The spelling I have is 'Marjory' on the birth reg..... not Marjorie. I think Marjory rather than Marjorie is an unusual spelling?
