Thank you very much Catherine

Afraid that doesn't ring any bells. At the moment I have no "Pages" or "Mathews" in the family tree. Something to look at though.

Hello MarieCeleste

Thank very much for your reply.

The photos are taken in front of a fairly prosperous looking middle class house. The name of the house is clearly visible "Glyra", obviously named after the two boys, but I can't see any other clues as to its whereabouts. Annoyingly, I have a very vague recollection of visiting there when I was really tiny, but have absolutely no idea where it is.

Thank you very much TootyFruity

Yes, I found the birth record you mention, which seemed possible but his mother's maiden name is given as "Page" and I can't find anyone with that surname on either side of my family tree.

There's also this birth that would match 1925 birth:-

Births Mar 1914 (>99%)
MATHEWS Irene L Page Edmonton 3a 871

...............does this name ring a bell?

Hello Patricia, welcome to the boards.

Whereabouts do you think the photos may have been taken?

I have photographs of someone my mother (now deceased) referred to as “Auntie Mathews”.
One photo shows her with her husband and two young sons, obviously taken in the 1940s and annotated on the back “Cousin Mercia, Ralph, Glyn, Harry Mathews”. A second photo of a young man about 20ish is annotated “Ralph August 1946”.

In spite of all these clues I cannot find the births of the two boys, Ralph and Glyn nor the marriage of a Harry, or Henry Mathews to a Mercia. I have spent many frustrating hours trying to find them without success and can only guess that these events might perhaps have taken place outside the UK.

I have tried both spellings of the surname i.e. “Mathews”, as shown on the photo, and also “Matthews”.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated please.
