Thank you very much Reggie,
It could be him, there is no records of Thomas baptism, or any of his siblings, so I don't know where exactly he was born , in 1841 the family were living in Couls Close Canongate, by 1851 he was a an Blacksmith Apprentice, the time would fit in with what I have on him, his brother was also in the army , he was also drunk on Parade & went AWL & had a Court Martial. ]
Thank you,
Ann :-)

Thank you very much Reggie, that is interesting as the lady he was lodging with in London in 1881 & 1891 was born in Brighton,[ she states she was married, but no husband with her] she also had a daughter born in Brighton in 1857.

Thank you Tooty, I did find that, some years ago I paid someone to search for the baptism of Thomas & his siblings, none were found, he only found the marriage of Thomas sister.

Thank you both,
Ann
