OK, sorry about that, had a look anyway and one of George Exleys relatives that lived there was a gardener and my Gt Grandads son Tom who was 17 was a gardeners assistant....I wonder....interesting coincidence though. lol

Sorry Heather, didn't mean to mislead you, put George Exley in for elimination purposes, his house is the only one on 1911 census with a number added...

If you Google Rattle Gill Café, Ambleside....then go onto maps, you will be able to see Bridge St...

I should be in that area in the next few week's if I can help at all....

Edit...there were 11 houses on Bridge Street in 1911....three were just 2 rooms, John occupied one of these smaller properties....might just help narrow it down a little.

Number 3 was a 10 roomed Boarding House, occupied by George Exley

Records for Ambleside will be found at Kendal Records Office....the staff there are very helpful.

Have you tried google earth to see the area ,it will give you some idea of how many cottages there are. Also the local church may hold some records of parishioners at that time or give you an idea where they are so you can search in advance of your visit

Quite often those small cottages weren't numbered so you may not be able to pinpoint the exact one. Looking at the 1911. He doesn't put a number as you say

Have you looked at images either side of the 1911 to give you an idea of how the street might have been numbered or whether that property might have been next to the church, pub or post office etc.

Hi I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction. I know my great grandfather was living in Bridge Street Ambleside by the 1911 census and I know he was still living in Bridge Street in 1930 but I cannot find out the number of the cottage in Bridge Street anyone know how to find out the house numbers of residents in Bridge Street Ambleside. I have a second cousin coming over from Canada that we have never met, didnt know existed until we started family history and I would love to take him to the cottage where our Gt Grandfather lived.
