@Mike - Yes the information you provide is correct. Edward Hills 1692 would be the child I am descended from but judging from another tree, he had more children that I will need to look

Start with yourself, and work back............verifying every generation with certs (after 1837) then with Parish info (at the relevant Records Office/s)

If you wish to go back that far, you are going to have to spend money.............. on paperwork, or on travelling..........or both

You can't research FH starting at the 'other' end, as it were..............

Unless they only had one child then you would struggle to determine which of his offspring you are related to.

As been stated previously, start with your own parents, work backwards with the aid of certificates using http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl ( your Guaranteed proof) to 1837
For records before that date that you need to research parish records ( try https://familysearch.org/search )

Most of the research has been done by my distant cousins, so thats why I want to clarify it ALL myself..

You say that John Hills is your direct ancestor but then you say you want to clarify that you are related to him. You really need to start your tree off with yourself and work back one generation at a time so that you are absolutely sure that you follow the correct family line - especially with a name like Hills where there will be lots of families with the same name.

You can't guarantee anything unless you get certificates as far as you can and after that you have to rely on parish records (the actual images and not just transcriptions) as transcriptions always have the potential for human error - even original records can have errors on them.

You give an exact date for the marriage to Ann Reader so you must have seen this somewhere so why do you need clarification?

John Hills is one of my direct ancestors and I want to do some research on his descendants and I want to clarify that I am related to him with records. Does anyone hold information or tree matches for him. Where can I search FREE GUARANTEED records to clarify my lineage to him. He married on 13 Jan 1686 too Ann Reader who was born 1668 in Lincolnshire. I just wanted to find ways to clarify these dates!!
