Hello it is me again
I have looked of the freeBMD (I am learning) for John Griffiths born 1851 Anglesey
I can find John Griffiths but the fathers name is not Henry
I cannot find a John with a father named Henry
could somebody else look for me to see if it is there and I am not seeing it

When you get a very long URL and have to split it - this is a site which will shorten it , thus removing the problem.

The easiest place to get BMD certs is thru the GRO as per Jonesey's post above.

They can also be ordered thru the local registery office that now holds the original registers, in this case:

The local office costs a couple of extra quid - you can't order online, and some (like this one) don't take credit cards, and postage is often extra, so I go along with Jonesey.

Since you can buy them locally, some local offices do have their own indexes online, at least partially - see:

Anglesey only seem to have births online, but their indexes aren't identical to the GRO's, and do have extra info, including as a minimum, the subdistrict a B or D was rego'ed in.(and, in Anglesey, the mum's maiden surname). They typically are less precise abt the date cf the GRO.

The local registers office has the original registers that the informant signed in the case of B's & D's, but in the case of M's, only those performed before the registrar (which included all rego office marrs, all non-conformist marrs thru 1898 (1980s for RCs)).

For a C of W (or C of E) marr, the original register the couple signed was held by the church, but when it was full, it was sent to the superintendent registrar for checking his copy, and then deposited in some archive, usually the county records office.

If we're talking abt a church marr, you can order an m.cert from the minister if its in his current rego, and if it's on deposit in the CRO, you can view it there. Sometimes these CRO records are online, like Chris Ho's post from FMP - in this case, the image is also online thru FMP, and I've pm'ed a copy to you.

Keith - if you want us to look up the records just tell us all you can about the people you are researching (apart from those still living - in which case only tell us names, years and area; not exact dates or addresses) :-)

Find My Past had the info., would be on GR, but probably Platinum (I don't know these things!)

I am on pension and find doing family tree helps pass the time and is interesting
but I realise people pay a lot of money to access these sites and know I am taking advantage

Discount all comments regarding marriages pre-1837 - there were no certs then, anyway

The 1872 marriage cert will tell you the ages and occupations of the bride and groom, and the NAMES and OCCUPATIONS of both fathers.........if they were known.

You would benefit from looking at freebmd, and reading the info about what details are on certs........of all kinds

If the marriage was before 1837 it would be unlikely that you would be able to get a certificate.

My fault I think I read it as a marriage in 1800 and not the 1800's!!!

Some are just recorded as a marriage between the two being the bride and groom on earlier marriages.

Trust me to throw a spanner in the works!! :-(

All the marriage certificates I have record the occupations of the bride & groom and each of their fathers. They also record the date and place of marriage and the ages of the happy couple.

Think you only get that on marriages after 1837.

oh I am disappointed I thought I would get the mothers fathers occupation and the grooms fathers occupation
my mistake putting birth instead of marriage
I will not bother if it will only tell me where they married as I already know this thanks to people on genes reunited
