They could have married anywhere in the country, or abroad.

What else do you know about them, and how are you related to them?

Thank-you

Tracy

England/Wales birth certs do not record the birthplaces of the parents

Also, just because the mother's maiden name is on the cert, it does not mean that she and the father were actually married

Ah the change was made around 1969

Name, date and place of birth.
Father's name (if given at time of registration), place of birth and occupation.
Mother's name, place of birth, maiden surname and, after 1984, occupation.
(Registrations made before 1969 do not include details of the parents' place of birth and mother's occupation.)

Are the parents still alive...perhaps not the most appropriate place to be discussing whether they married or not?

patchem Report 4 Jul 2013 07:06

Could the mother have been married before, so a marriage of Diane Smith to Mr X, and then Diane X to John Hale? Extra surnames do not always show.
Are Diane and John the grandparents of your friend?
