Just a thought and probably a red herring -
I'm looking at this, I know it's totally the wrong county but in 1841 when his memory was still good (!!) he said he was born in Shropshire and Shropshire and Staffordshire are next to each other!

Yes I saw that he had said "born in county" on 1841 .... Beverley
So its possible I suppose, although Michael said he had the details from St Mary Swansea, but it was lost when the the detail to America but who knows it should definitely be left here it - although he says Swansea 1851

Looked thru the Dawley Magna baptisms last night ... And there is a second family with the surname Charles .... From memory it was a Joseph Charles ... Coincidence or a brother ....... Will post it later

They also have a marriage 27th October 1816 at Madeley, Salop for Samuel Charles and Elizabeth Price

No extra information given though.

baptism Elizabeth Price with mother Martha ... And got nothing ....

and at Wellington, Dawley Magna ... Etc

I have at least a date of Marriage now for Samuel and Elizabeth. I will send for a Marriage certificate and see what that leads to.
Thank you seems little to say for all of your efforts.
I did not get what I was looking for (Samuel's Birth in Swansea) I think that I have exhausted all know avenues there to this point; but due to your invaluable help I draw close.

I am sorry to tell you that marriage certificates are only avaliable since 1st July 1837
this leaflet should explain all ---- prior to that - entries were only made in the parish church records - to see the entry you will either need to email the church to see if the registers are there and then visit .. Or ask them to make you a copy and send it to you

There are two Samuel Charles baptised in Swansea St. Mary's. The originals can be viewed on Find My Past.

Samuel Charles baptised 12/11/1806 birth date 6/3/1806 father Samuel

Samuel Charles baptised 2/7/1809 birth date 27/4/1808 father Samuel.
