Find Ancestors

I am trying to find out when and where my paternal grandfather died. His name was Samuel William Johnson, born on 31 July 1880. He married Ada Susannah Golding. His father was George Benjamin Johnson. They lived mainly in Surrey, especially around Lambeth, also London UK. Many thanks Pam

It's very difficult with such a common name to locate a death. Do you know if he fought in WW1.

If this is Ada's death registration then the certificate may tell you if she was a widow and also who notified the death. That will give you a time-scale to work from.

EDIT: She appears alone on the Electoral register from 1925 until 1936. Her children Cyril and George Benjamin are living with her on the later ones but there is no sign of Samuel so he maybe died in WW1

Thanks for all of your replies, Samuel was the black sheep, and Ada lived with my father, who looked after her before she died and he administered her will.. To the best of my knowledge they officially separated in the 1920's Don't know that he fought in the war, but he certainly didn't die then. Mum & dad's marriage certificate (1937) says he is deceased, but I don't really know if they knew for sure. That is the trouble with all of these Johnson's makes it hard work, but interesting. Pamela....I'd look at that probate I posted..although I can't find a death to match of the correct age. I certainly cannot find a marriage to fit between Samuel William and Alice Jane which might mean they didn't marry because he was still married to your grandmother. Is one of the trees on Ancestry your's? There are a few nice photos.
