Alan, the only other place I can think of is the Gill Hall estates records, I'm not 100% sure, but they are probably held in PRONI in Belfast.

Alan, you should remove your email address from your post - against the sites T&Cs and not a good idea on a public board. If you want to contact Maura directly, click on her name and send her a message through GR.

Irish registration didn't begin until 1864, except noncatholic marriage they began 1845. No vital records where lost in Dublin 1922. Only the 1841 & 51 census where lost in that fire, the rest where destroyed one way or another. C.O.I. records up to 1870 where also lost in that fire, but some churches kepted copies. There is very few R.C. & Presbyterian records for that time frame due to the penal laws. The Ulster Historial Foundation have the largest church records online for Co. Down. ancestryireland.com They are also part of rootsireland.ie

My ancestor was William Fairlie who worked at Gill Hall in Dromore, County Down. Whilst there he had two children with an Elizabeth McDead. They were:-
William Fairlie born 1.2.1811 and Sarah Fairlie/McDead born 15.9.1807 The boy William eventually went to live in Ayr, Scotland but I have been unable to find when he went there and what happened to his mother, father and Sarah. Also, I would like to know when the father left Ayr (if that's where, like the rest of the family, he originally came from) to go to Dromore. Because the Irish records were lost in a fire I am unable to go any further back than 1807 for my family unless I can find the link back to Scotland. Anyone out there who thinks that they may be related or have the answer will receive my everlasting gratitude as I have been searching for the answers to these questions for many years. :-)
