Gee

Gee Report 13 Jul 2013 09:29

It was in Huddersfield Dea

Ive found the family on the census and it says William was born Yorkshire, so maybe not the right one

Or..........he could have just 'said' he was born in India?

Dea

Dea Report 13 Jul 2013 10:23

Jane Lee was also born in Yorkshire c1870 so it can't be the correct marriage for the ones we are following. :-(

I think the record Alemap has posted looks promising given the age, birthplace and discharge location. So the middle name on that is Henry? - there's no mention of any middle name on the two census records. Has the assumption been made that his middle name is James because he was known as "Jim"?

My brother in law's name bears no resemblance whatsoever to James but he is known as Jim because when he was a lad he used to get called "Sunny Jim" after a cartoon character. He has the name Jim on his word ID, bank account etc

There's often no logic as to why people are called by certain names.

I see we are on the same wavelength MC.

William H was RC before becoming a Wesleyan, so James could be a confirmation name or it could be a name he picked up like "Sunny Jim"

My grey cells must be dying off as I didn't recollect having worked on a previous thread about the same people. It would have been very useful if this new request had been tagged onto the previous one for the background information.

I still think it's William Henry Crowe, who just happened to be known as Jim.
