If it's him, perhaps he wasn't William Sr's son, and he wasn't willing to bring up the child??
It would account for the number of living children listed in 1911.

Of course, not necessarily any relation of Jean's!

My Fathers name was Thomas Chambers the family was split when he was 7Years old After his death I found his sisters . Mary, Frances and Catherine . I have also found them on the 1911 censors. none of them new wear there father or mother wear and have since died.
On the marriage register I have found a marriage in Leeds with a Mary Kidd & William Chambers witch fits the same year they were married on the 1911 censor

Thanks for the extra information, Jean.

We don't know the father of the William Chambers born 1899/1900, posted by Potty on this page . (Perhaps you're confusing Mary's husband and her son?)

To recap:
the 1911 census posted by Flip on page one of this thread is the correct one.
It says Mary was born c1883 in Clifford.

Therefore it looks as if the 1901 census, with Mary, her son William, and her brothers Patrick and Thomas, is also correct. It says she was born c1882 in Clifford.

Therefore she was Mary Moran, and not Mary Kidd.
There were several Mary Moran births registered in the Leeds/Wetherby area at the right time, but no Mary Kidds between 1880 and 1885.
Both marriages, both to men named William Chambers, were in the Clifford area (Leeds or Wetherby) in 1898.

You do need to buy the marriage cert - maybe both - to see which is the correct William Chambers. I hope they both didn't have fathers named James!

This is presumably your William in 1891:

Jean, do you have a birth cert for either your father or one of his siblings that gives MMN of Kidd? How do you know William's father's name was James?
