Thanks Safc for this suggestion. The Spouse's name was definitely Ingram as I have other documentation which confirms this. William was also born in 1856 which is also confirmed. I guess Electoral Rolls are the next step. Will have to organise a trip to Yorkshire.

William Henry's wife was Elizabeth Ingram. I have traced the family on the 1881 census but Elizabeth is missing. She could have been living with another member of the family or she could be married . Her age is a mystery, this fluctuates. She died in 1938 (age 68) which doesn't tie up with a the age on the 1891 census or when she married again in 1901 (age showing 34).

Again, if there was an inquest, as mentioned before, there should be details of this either in the Hull archives or in the Newspapers.

I understand that Inquest records were not always archived so without this, I am not able to confirm whether I have the right person.

As far as I know all the records I have are correct in every other respect. Census records and the certificates I have confirm these.

It is a possibility that William Henry and Elizabeth never married, but I am informed by a member of the family, who Elizabeth married into in 1901, were quite a religious family and would not have agreed to the marriage if Elizabeth had not been officially widowed.

However, I will keep on delving. This is what makes family history so absorbing.

But it is SO common a name!...a search of William Henry Jackson in Yorkshire in 1891 brings up 98 results (and that's without "him" as Harry!

Hello Pam, I'm afraid those mentions from the newspaper archives I posted above were the only results that came up.

I do have the death certificate for a Henry Jackson, age 43 (which would fit in with his birth in 1856). His occupation is shown as Railway Checker, although on the 1891 census, he is shown as Clerk CC. There is nothing else which helps shown on the certificate only that there was an Inquest held 24th and 25th July 1899.

I have had problems tracking this William Henry down. I know he died between 1897 and 1901, as his wife remarried in 1901 as a widow and he had fathered a son born in 1898. There were also two or three Williams in the immediate family. He was also referred to as Harry.

His wife's name was Elizabeth (I am also having difficulties tracing a marriage for her and William/Henry). There was also an older son called Frederick.

I thought maybe if there had been an inquest, details would have been reported in the local newspapers which would have confirmed whether I had the right person.

Any help would be much appreciated.

In 1897 a William Henry Jackson, a plumber was buried (no cause of death)

In July 1899 a Henry Jackson choked to death on a bit of food (no details about him)

In April 1899 a Henry Jackson, age 70, of Elms Farm shot himself. (Loads of articles on that one)

These were in the Hull area.

If any of these are likely then I could send copies of the articles.

Pam, I'd be happy to do a look up in the on-line newspaper archives but it's such a common name it would help if we could narrow it down first.

Have you pinpointed a death on FreeBMD so we can narrow the timeframe? How old would he have been? What were the names of any family members? What was his occupation?

Do you have any further info about how his end was unfortunate?

I am trying to find out a little more about William Henry Jackson (Called Henry Jackson). He died circa 1898 in Kingston upon Hull, and I believe he had an unfortunate end. This could have been the subject of a Newspaper story, so I would be grateful if someone could let me know what the most read newspaper would have been at that time. I think the death was the subject of an Inquest, but up to now I have not been able to find any records available.

Has anyone got any ideas.
