I'm looking for some help to get information about my Boulton side of the family.
Harry married Doris Brough Turfrey and had two children I know of, there could be more!
Arthur, born in Stone, Staffordshire in 1924
Violet, born in Stone, Staffordshire in 1923
I have the marriage certificate of Arthur but my family know nothing of the generation before. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Do you have the marriage cert ?

Harry Boulton appears to be a common name in Staffordshire so think you need the marriage cert to confirm his age and the details of his father

Thanks for the info! Yes, I do have Harry's marriage cert. it's dated 24th July 1920 in the parish of Swynnerton, County of Stafford. Harry's Father was also named Harry.

After checking the very neat writing on the marriage certificate it appears he was called Henry.

Can you confirm the occupation of both Harry/Henry and his father from the marriage cert

Both are recorded as farm labourers.

Sarah, you suggested that there may be more children than Violet and Arthur - it looks like there are.

Clearly, an illegitimate birth, but is her mum Florrie or Elsie? - you'll need her b.cert to tell this, I think.

Re sorting out which Henry/Harry is yours.
Who were the witnesses on his m.cert? - they're usually sibs of the couple, or the sibs' spouses.
What is Harry's age and address on the m.cert?

Hello, and many thanks for your research.
I already have the birth certificate for Doris Brough Turfrey, it names her mother as Florence Annie Turfrey. Her father is named as what looks like Gerry, he is recorded as as gardener, deceased.

The witnesses on Henry Boulton's marriage certificate are A. V. Turfrey, brother of Annie and C. M. Boulton - no idea who this is!

Forgot to add Harry is 32 at the time of his marriage. I can't see an address. It just says Swynnerton as place living at time of marriage.

Sorry, I keep saying Harry because that's what my family have heard him called - I mean Henry, don't mean to confuse!

Hi Maureen, thanks for the info. Very hard to tell if it's Henry..... I hope it could be, but as you say the dates are questionable. I've no idea when Henry died but it was before 1974, because the death certificate I have for Doris states she is his widow.

ADDED: This means he was slightly older than originally thought (few years between them so could have lied when they married) but it makes Maureen's 1891 census more likely.
