It looks very likely that Doris was illegitimate, is it possible that the name "Brough" was a hint to Doris' Father's name? - although the birth certificate was left blank?

Going back to Doris Brough Turfrey I'm wondering where the "Brough" came from?
Her immediate family on the census are all Turfrey. Doris' birth certificate is left blank for Father's name, however her marriage certificate names Gerry? (Unclear) Turfrey as her Father but says he is deceased.... Could it be made-up to save embarrassment ?

Still can't find a marriage for Thomas and Margaret.....maybe they never married??

Not sure about the middle name though, I can't see Thomas earlier than the 1861 census (apart from the possible christening) so don't know if that is why we can't find his marriage.

I wonder if Margaret was a middle name, I've found lots of other relatives on my tree who used middle names instead of first names.....if only they'd known what confusion it would cause in the future!

Haven't managed to find a marriage for Thomas Thornhill to Margaret/Margrett though, nor him on any census prior to 1861 - so can't find her maiden name I'm afraid.

It actually looks like Henry/Harry did indeed start out life as Harry! (not sure if this has already been posted, so sorry if it is a duplication.)
