Martin.....Go to the Free BMD site.

Put in name you are looking for.
Put in mothers maiden name...(only for Births and Marriages)
Put in District....scroll down to Dunmow...
Put in date...eg.1911-1920

Dont put anything else in...

You should find freebmd very easy to use.

On the first page...................

Click on 'search' which is in bright red..............

Click on 'births'

Input the surname and first forename in the boxes set aside for them............

In the COUNTY box......select 'Essex'

Click on 'find'

Once you've found one.....play around until you get to know how to use the site..........

have fun...............................

No news from the phone call I am afraid. We think the older brother Richard might be correct - he lived at a place called 'Rose Cottage' on Dunmow Road (as far as i recall)

It seems Laurie married a "Holden"

I am not seeing any obvious births for the couple though.

She has children by three different fathers, all took her name of Baker, none of the fathers were registered on any of the certificates. My father was an American GI.
