Hi, I need some help please!
I have tried to trace siblings of my Great Grandfather Frederick Hayden, born in Leeds, Yorks, 1875.
I have located him in the 1911 Census living in West Ham with his wife Kate, and children Jessie, Kathleen and Thomas (my granddad). Frederick's occupation is listed as an Asylum Attendant.
Going back through the earlier Census, I have found a Frederick Hayden, born in Doncaster, with siblings and parents however their occupations differ. This Frederick worked as a Telegraph Instrument maker, and in 1911 was married to a Rhoda.
I have been unable to locate 'my' Frederick in earlier census.
I thought I had tracked down a decendant of who I thought were Frederick's siblings only to be told that my information related to the other Frederick who, my contact has informed me, had no children.
Where then was my Frederick before 1911?!
Very frustrated as my mum died a few years ago and my uncle has limited information.
Thank you!

I havent found much on him at all. I've found the births of the children, his wife was a Kate Robinson. I have not found a marriage for them and the birth year has been established from the 1911 census. I have an old tin of photos that has the initials of FH on it. A 2nd cousin has Kate's death certificate that has Frederick William as spouse however the 2nd cousin thought Frederick was Frederick Charles or even Charles Frederick though Im sure Frederick is his christian name. Frederick was born in Yorkshire, Kate was born in Ashford. I suppose I could request marriage certs for both areas but dont have a marriage date.

rootgatherer has posted the marriage.

Do you know when he died?

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 29 Jul 2013 21:34

A tree on Ancestry has him born as Frederick G Hayden in Doncaster October 1875, son of John Kirby Hayden and Mary Ann Baker.

The only sources for the information is the census records and although his marriage is given as 1904 to Kate HAYDEN there is no source for this other than the 1911 census.

patchem Report 29 Jul 2013 21:41

Frederick G is the other one, surely, born Doncaster, with Rhoda in 1911.

Yes, I think so too Patchem.

I think the marriage certificate is a must to get the name of his father.

Trees built purely on census records are often a bit dodgy!

Not seeing a birth for Jessie at the moment

Just posting the other births as sometimes middle names help.

I have got a message out with a couple of relatives to see if they can assist me. I too thought John Kirby was Fredericks father however I have been told otherwise. I will definately be ordering the marriage certificate! I'm finding alot of secrets and lies with this branch of the family!
Thanks for all your help.

Chris Ho - I have the above information as I thought they were my 'Haydens' however the Frederick Hayden detailed has a different occupation to mine who was an Asylum Attendant. I'm going to get the marriage certificate so I can see for sure who Frederick's father was.
I have been in contact with a decendant of who I thought was one of 'my' Frederick's siblings, William who had 2 daughters however I have been informed that 'his' Frederick was married to a Rhoda Richardson and they had no children. May be the same person living a double life!!

Cathryn

Cathryn Report 10 Aug 2013 17:43

I now have the marriage certificate between Frederick William Hayden and Kate Robinson.
They were married in 1904 in Romford. At the time of their marriage they were both living (working) at Claybury Asylum, Ilford. Frederick was an Asylum attendant, Kate a nurse. Fredericks father is detailed as an Edwin Coombe (?) Hayden, Veterinary Surgeon (deceased).
As previously mentioned, I am unable to find Frederick prior to the 1911 census. The census shows Frederick as being born in Leeds, 1876 but we can find no trace of his birth. We know that when he died (whenever that was!), he left his body to medical science.
We have tried to search for Edwin with Frederick and Edwin on his own, again, no trace.
Where do we go now?
