Hi Chris,
How much detail would be contained in the records at the archives? Would it assist us in establishing Fredericks nationally, where he was prior to the 1911 census etc? We know Kate died in 1969 in Norwich which is where I am. She moved in with my grandparents when my mum and her brother were little. She helped out with childcare when my nan went to work. We also know that Frederick was retired in 1936, as this is detailed on my grandfathers 1st marriage cert.

A search on FreeBMD for an Edw* Hayden with the middle name Coomb* produces no results. Have you considered that Hayden may not have been his birth surname but Coombe? Perhaps his mother re-married or lived with a Mr. Hayden and Frederick took his surname?

Were the names of the witnesses on his marriage certificate any help?

Is it possible that he was born in Leeds, Kent rather than Yorkshire?

Rootgather,
We have searched using different variations of name and drawn a blank.
The wedding witnesses were not relatives.
