Official records are not likely to make any reference to his having been press-ganged. It wasn't exactly legal

I think that should be HMS Daedalus

Thanks so much for your time Ann
I was hoping to be able to confirm the story about the Press Gang and so far have not found a source for the Naval Records of that time.
We have the family history back to 1650 in East Lothian from the family bible and confirmed from other sources.

Does anyone know where or how to find Naval Records from 1800? While searching for information on my husbands 3 X great grandfather William Dods born 1781 in Berwickshire, Scotland I found this reference on a family tree on Rootsweb.
I have tried without success to contact the tree owner for a source for this information.
The information in the first sentence is accurate, we have a family bible with records and is also easily verifiable.
I would love to be able to verify the second sentence about the Press gang etc., but have no idea where to look. Any suggestions at all would be great!

William and his wife, Elizabeth, emigrated from Scotland to Canada in
1829 with their family. They pioneered their farm in the 1830's. They had
eight children.

"William was seized by a press Gang while on business in
Berwick, ca. 1800, and served aboard a British Warship for three years
with no communication with his family. This was during the Napoleonic
Wars."
Thanks Monica
