MarieCeleste Report 3 Aug 2013 21:57

Most of this is from Ancestry Worldwide, Emma.

I'm not yet sure if Arthur and Margaret May divorced or if he was widowed. I can't find a divorce record but neither have I yet found a positive death for Margaret May.

I mentioned a son for Arthur and Alexandrina (did I say that on the passenger list she was 5' 10" tall and Arthur was 5' 8" ?)

This is that son's marriage:

The Advertiser (Adelaide, SA : 1931 - 1954) Saturday 15 January 1949

WOODS —RICHARDSON. —The marriage of Elizabeth Mary, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Woods, of Kilkenny, to Arthur Lincoln, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Richardson, of Helmsdale, will be solemnised at St. David's Church of England, Burnside, on Saturday, January 22, at 3.15 p.m.

Hi Emma

Two births in Victoria, Australia:

Norman Allan RICHARDSON 1910 (reg 8375), born in Balwyn, parents shown as Arth Osmand and Margt May (nee THOMAS).

Colin Arth 1912 (reg 4259), born in Hepburn, parents shown as Arth Asmond and Margt May (nee THOMAS).

The 1908 marriage (reg 7935) shows his birthplace as Northampton and hers as Bendigo.

Two possible births for her both born in Sandhurst, Victoria (or Sandridge?), both in or near Melbourne, not near Bendigo...marriage certificate would tell you her parents names.

Have to add what a lovely chap to be descended from - he did some great work for the less fortunate! :-)

MarieCeleste Report 4 Aug 2013 09:41

Hi Cherilyn, pleased you popped up on here as I was going to send for you!

Certainly an interesting family and Arthur comes across as someone who gave back to society.

Can you find a death record for Margaret May Richardson (nee Thomas), going by passenger lists she was born c1880. Thing is, I'm not sure if she died Australia or England.

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 4 Aug 2013 09:43

Thanks MC, wasn't sure whether to poke my nose in or not!

I was a bit unsure if we had 2 AOR's here, but they do seem to be the same chap...do you think?

Still looking for Margt's death or a marriage to Alexandrina

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 Aug 2013 09:50

At first I was starting to wonder if they were two different men but the passenger lists seem to tie everything together with the various addresses.

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 4 Aug 2013 09:52

Hmm just occurs to me that if it was Margaret he left behind in London in 1922, then the son Arthur Lincoln must have been born not long after, because he married in SA in 1948. He is described as the 'elder son'.

???

Okay had another look and he was with Margaret in London in 1920, went to the US in 1922, then had a son Arthur Lincoln with Alexandrina in approx Jan 1928, and travelled with Alexandrina and baby Arthur in mid-1929. Did he marry her in the US? No marriage found in NSW.

BUT then he is found with Margaret in London electoral rolls in 1930...so there must be two different men here? Though he shown as is a journalist...!

I think his Vic marriage certificate to Margaret is required, Emma - it can be downloaded as an uncertified image (pdf) online for A$20, would tell you his birthplace, age and parents. Just Google 'Victoria bdm uncertified image'.

I wonder...

Marriages Dec 1939 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nahr Noelle M Richardson Paddington 1a 241
Richardson Norman A Nahr Paddington 1a 241

Maybe he married in the UK while serving in WWII? His service record would have a copy of the marriage detais if he did. You can request it to be digitised as NAA Recordsearch.

:-D

PS Just noticed he enlisted in Paddington NSW! How funny!

PPS Do you know Colin's wife's name or when/where he married? Possible in 1939 Paddington (London) to an Ivy SINCLAIR, see FreeBMD.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 Aug 2013 10:21

Looking at the passenger lists the US arrivals all seem to be "in transit" between England and Australia, perhaps that was his preferred route - maybe stopping off to conduct some business en route? There's nothing on them to suggest that he stayed in USA more than a week or so (I guess that would be long enough to get married though?).

Re: the 1930 London ER - I've come across people listed on the ER the year after they died so it's possible that when it's published the info is a bit out of date.

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 4 Aug 2013 10:34

One of the Margaret May THOMAS' was born in 1880 in Sandhurst, daughter of Francis and Elizabeth (nee EDDY) (reg 24975). Seems to fit age on passenger lists.

As I say I think the marriage cert needs to be the next step to make sure you are on the right track.

Interesting...there is a Noelle Monteith-Nahr listed in NSW Electoral Roll in 1936 in Wentworth district!
