Still looking - had no further luck! I can't seem to find any websites giving out much information about Canadians - am assuming they have stricter data protection rules than we do in the UK. :-(

Thanks for all your replies - he is proving to be quite elusive after entering Canada!

Hi Shirley and Chris

The records that you've found are the same as the information I've found. I hadn't thought that the government would be paying for the travel.

I have included Canada in my title so fingers crossed! Thanks for you help

Michelle :-D

That's the only one I can find as well, maybe amend your title to include Canada - that way it will attract those more familiar with the Canadian records.

Hi I'm looking for info for my great uncle David Shiel Anderson born in 1915 Berwickshire, Scotland. His parents are Christopher Anderson 1886 to 1919 and Mary Esther Sheil (who was later widowed and married Thomas T Fothergill only be to widowed again). Mary died in 1963.

My Dad says he vaguely remembers David coming to their house in the early to mid 50s to say his goodbyes before going to possibly Canada. I've found a record for David in 1931 giving his mothers married (Anderson) and maiden name (Shiel) emigrating to Canada as a farm labourer - the record also gives Shiel as his middle name. As Sheil is a reasonably unusual name I'm certain that this must be the same David. Therefore David must have come back to the UK - at that point the family would have been both in Scotland and London. I can't find anything concrete about his return and then leaving the UK again in the 1950s - nor can I find a marriage or death for him. Any help would be greatly appreciated as my Dad has several questions which could well be answered should David have any decendents whom could be contacted should they be willing.

Thanks, Michelle :-) :-S
