ER = Electoral Roll

What is the mother's ACTUAL address on the birth cert?

And was she the one who registered the birth?

If the mother was born in the 1920's she could still be alive.
Or she could have died within the last few years and not showing up when you search.

Is your grandmother still alive, and/or does she have any adoption papers that could give further details?

Added:
As the birth was October 1939, had the ER's for 1939 already been complied, or did they stop very abruptly?

You could Google the relevant library and give them a ring, they may have a look for you?

OK, As it was WW2 their will be no electoral roll but as you have an address then a visit to the main librarary where the rolls are kept and check the years before and after the war, Bear in mind only people eligible to vote are listed and see who is listed, Hopfuly her father? will be one, Then you can find a marriage, the cert should name her father, Then once you have her married name you can look first to see if she is still living or dead plus you will then be able to search for possible children to that marriage.

yeh but i know so little about her life i dont know how to tell if its her or not?

I know im not very good at this yet.

there are possible marriages for possible marjorie scholefields related to my family. but i cant find any deaths with the name scholefield meaning she must have married?

As I said before; Did you look for a possible marriage or death for her?

Roy

Rebecca

Rebecca Report 21 Aug 2013 23:19

basically the birth certificate says:

childs name: Marjorie scholefield

october 1939

Place of birth : halifax

Mothers name, surname, maiden surname: Marjorie Scholefield

Rebecca

Rebecca Report 21 Aug 2013 23:17

i didnt think the marjorie born in 1910 was likely to be her.... i thought 29 would be too old for her to still be single and have to have the baby adopted. that is all.

Im stuck trying to proceed with the search at this point :/

i know the name and address of her birth mother at the time of my grandmother's birth as it is written on the birth certificate. but i don't know how to search from there.

If you seach children their are several possible siblings? listed from 1915 up to 1932 in that part of yorkshire for Scholefield mmn James so their is a possibility of a link

Porkie_Pie Report 21 Aug 2013 22:50

I no Reggie, but from Rebecca's post it looks like she thinks mum WAS 29 when she gave birth

Im just trying to get Rebecca to open her mind to other possibilities

Roy

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 21 Aug 2013 22:43

I only suggested the birth as a possibility............read my post carefully

As the birth cert doesnt give age for mother and often single girls where sent away to give birth have you considered that the Births Sep 1910 that Reggie found may not be her?

She may have been very young herself in 1939

example

Births Jun 1921
SCHOLEFIELD Marjorie James Holbeck 9b 940

Holbeck like Halifax is in west yorks so not far apart

My Great Gran had 13 children the first when she was 19 years old and the last was born when she was 43 years old

Some don't even start trying for children until well into their 30's and older today

Rebecca

Rebecca Report 21 Aug 2013 20:15

the only reason i would think that she isnt that marjoire scholefield is because she would be 29 when she gave birth to my grandmother. i don't know how likely that'd be?
