The only record you can hope for is her baptism.

BUT......you already know the parents' names.............so finding info about Mary won't add to your knowledge

You need to look for the marriage of the parents to try to establish the mother's maiden name

Could you post the census with Joseph, and that of Mary please?
Have you followed forward Joseph, his wife and daughter?
To your knowledge, did Mary 1812 have any siblings?

Where are the two MARYs?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 4 Sep 2013 10:35

How did you decide that these people were the family of Mary born c1812?

Christine

Christine Report 4 Sep 2013 10:36

I am trying to find out Mothers maiden name and am intrigued as to the reason she was born 'at sea' where they were travelling from, and what port they docked in. then can trace female line back from there. I cannot find baptism or parents marriage.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 4 Sep 2013 10:39

The idea that a child of Joseph's was born at sea seems unlikely, to say the least.

It's possible that she was Mary's child before her marriage...................she, at least, was born close to the sea.

Where did your info come from about Mary's birthplace

Christine

Christine Report 4 Sep 2013 10:46

Mary put her birthplace as 'at sea' on census records last one being 1871 in Spittals workhouse Stoke on Trent and every one I have found prior to then, she died 1874 i think

Reggie sorry have been out, I connected her to the Bott family through Sibling Ellen who was living with her in one of the census so started searching out Ellen and siblings too

Christine

Christine Report 4 Sep 2013 14:51

BeverleyW It looks correct, think she must have lied about her age. because everything else matches perfectly.

I have seen 'born on the sea' before, and the father turned out to be a Waterman on Inland Waterways!
