Trying to locate parents and date of birth of John Laurence
He appears on the 1851 London Census as John Laurence, age 35, son, born Marylebone, London, Bookbinder. (This would make his birth date abt 1816)
The head of the household is Sarah Apted, b Canterbury, Kent abt 1794.
I am assuming that Sarah Apted is his mother having been married previously to a ??????? Laurence.
Her second husband was a William Apted who she married in Marylebone, 18 Feb 1827.
Any help in finding John Laurence's actual date of birth and both parents would be welcome.

Stuart Report 8 Sep 2013 20:35

Hi Ramblingrose,
I guess the 1851 census which shows him as John Laurence could be a transcription error ??

Not the marriage to Cavell that John is a linen draper

Nor the one to Caroline , that John is a labourer

Hi Ann

Looks like a potential match. Not sure how the "Pinto" middle name fits into the grand scheme of things

Stuart how did you get back to John?

Mary

Mary Report 8 Sep 2013 20:56

Maybe he was born to Sarah Lawrence unmarried ,he is a witness for his half sister Eliza Apted who married Denis Donegan 12/7/1857.

This one??
John Pinto Lawrence baptised St Marylebone 30/8/1815 by
John Lawrence (Gent) and Sarah lawrence

Hi MaryB
Thanks for your message. I Have the marriage cert for Eliza Apted and Dennis Donegan which shows John Laurence as witness to his half sister Eliza Apted.
Regards
Stuart

Edit note: Same thought is going through my mind too. Canterbury records are not as good as London and can't see a Sarah Laurence/Lawrence in their records

Stuart

Stuart Report 8 Sep 2013 21:09

MaryB
Ann came up with that also. Looks like a potential match.
Is there a Marriage for John Lawrence (Gent) and Sarah ???????

That might give a maiden name for Sarah

On the 1851 census, John Laurence is down as unmarried.

Do you know that he had children later on?

Hi ChristinaS

Thanks for your message. He is a bit of a mystery to me. It is difficult to actually pinpoint who he is and where mainly because of the spelling of the surname, vis-a-vis Laurence vs Lawrence.
